Deuteronomy 6 gives a mandate for parents to train their children to follow the Lord. We are here to help! Our desire is that River Kids would serve as a catalyst for discussion and teaching between parents and children.  River Kids provides Sunday morning children's ministry for Tadpoles (birth-2), Guppies (preschool, ages 3-5) and Frogs & Otters (elementary-aged students). For mother's of young children, we provide a "Mothers with Infants Area" where you can step out of the Worship Gathering to comfort/feed your child or change a diaper if needed.  We encourage you to arrive 10 mins early to check-in your children at the River Kids check-in area and then proceed together into the sanctuary for worship. We love having children in the service! After 3-4 songs, we have a moment where parents can bring their children to River Kids and return in time for the sermon to begin. Additionally, families of preschoolers are welcomed to use the playground before or after church!  The safety of your children is our highest priority. All of our River Kids volunteers have been through an application/training process and background check. Also, we'll give you and your children a name tag with a unique identification code during check-in. In addition to serving the city of Boston, he has a passion to see the spiritual tide turn in New England in his lifetime. Josh has bachelor and seminary degrees in Religion and Church Ministries, and has started ministries for youth and families in urban housing developments along with new churches in Greater Boston. On top of his ministries in Boston, he enjoys traveling to speak across the country with a unique focus on the northeast. Josh and his wife Becky have two sons, Isaiah and Luca and a daughter Norah. He loves investing in ministry leaders, coaching baseball, marathon running and exploring New England. Josh and his family live in the Boston neighborhood of West Roxbury. Born in Dorchester, Kevin has a deep love for the people of Boston. Today he lives with his wife, Pam and children, Zoe, Levi and Evangeline in East Dedham. He loves working with his hands, playing guitar, and spending time near the water with his family. A graduate of Framingham State and Southern Seminary, Kevin loves helping people understand scripture and grow in their relationship with Christ.  Bethany, her husband Tanner, and their three children relocated to Boston from Rhode Island, where they were deeply involved in church planting efforts both in the Ocean State and throughout New England. As our River Kids Director, Bethany is passionate about helping children discover and follow Jesus while empowering families to grow and thrive in their faith. The Greens now call the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston home. Caleb, originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. Today he lives in Dedham with his wife, Jerissa, and their three children. A songwriter, music director, and worship leader trainer, Caleb is passionate about deepening the connection between music and theology in the Church. Believing that music is a powerful tool for God's people to express thanksgiving, repentance, intercession, and joy, Caleb is dedicated to equipping others through writing, singing, and training. Originally from Central Massachusetts, Joe came to the Boston area to play football at Bentley University. He was baptized at Charles River Church in 2022 and quickly became a committed member, serving faithfully on the worship team and in student ministry. In 2024, he served as a summer intern while discerning a call to ministry, and in 2025, he began his ministry residency. As a ministry resident, Joe now leads our student ministries for middle and high school students, both within the church and in nearby apartment complexes, and serves on local college campuses. In his free time, you’ll likely find him at the gym, drinking matcha, or singing and playing guitar. Originally from Pennsylvania, Andrew has been with Charles River from the beginning as a freshmen at Bentley University. He has served for several years as a faithful volunteer with our River Kids, spent a summer as an intern, and now serves our ministry team leaders and college ministries. A graduate of Gordon Conwell, Andrew and his wife Marie lead ministry to the Western Suburb colleges (Babson, Bentley, Boston College, Curry, Brandeis, Lasell, Olin, and Wellesley) with CRU. Jua plays an active role in the Boston community. As a trusted faith leader, he serves as team chaplain for the New England Patriots. Additionally he serves as Executive Director of the Boston Collaborative, an organization that connects workplace Christians to each other and to needs within the city of Boston. Jua also volunteers his time on the Greater Things Greater Boston Steering Team and Little Voice Early Learning Center Advisory Board. He’s had the privilege of speaking nationally to churches, with business leaders, and on college campuses including Harvard, MIT, NC State, and the University de Cocody (Cote D’Ivoire), West Africa. His family planted Heart Change Fellowship, a multi-ethnic congregation in Jamaica Plain, MA which merged with Charles River in the Summer of 2018. Jua’s heart is seeing people live passionately for Jesus. He and his wife, Regina, are parents to four energetic children. Will moved to Boston from UK with his wife, Katie, and two young boys. Now a father of four boys (two Bostonians!), it's needless to say that he leads an "active" life. He teaches at the British International School of Boston while also pursuing a Masters in Divinity at Toronto Baptist Seminary. An avid sports fan, he can engage in robust dialogue about nearly any and every sport. In addition to leading our Chestnut Hill Connection Group and serving as a beloved River Kids teacher, Will cares well for our church family as an elder. Paul and his family moved to Boston from Sierra Leone, West Africa in 2014. The Coles quickly became active members of our church serving with hospitality teams, shepherding a Connection Group, and leading the way in the ministry of prayer. Paul has a masters of financial management from the London School of Business & Finance and serves as the Director of Finance for a large non-profit on the North Shore. In 2020 he completed the Charles River Church Leadership Fellowship. He lives in Dedham with his wife Daniella and two teenaged children. John was raised in west Africa with furloughs in the greater Boston area. Today he serves as the North Regional Director for Send Relief, a community development organization and our network's downtown ministry center. Before stepping into his current role, John was a Send Network church planter in Providence, Rhode Island, and served on a church planting team in Waltham, Massachusetts. He holds both a PhD in Missiology from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and an MDiv with an Urban Ministry Concentration from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. John and his wife, Jenny, lead a Connection Group and their home and love serving the local church. They live in West Roxbury with their two children, Micah and Mikayla. Charles River Church is a local expression of the greater Church, the Body of Christ. As a church family, we want to see the hope of Jesus proclaimed through lives of worship, relationships, and outreach to our city and world.  Charles River Church is committed to the teachings of Scripture for both theological understanding and life application. We believe that the Bible is the written Word of God, that it is divinely inspired and inerrant throughout, infallible and God-breathed, that it is the supreme authority in all matters of which it speaks, that it is totally sufficient and must therefore not be added to, superseded, or changed by later tradition, extra-biblical revelation, or worldly wisdom (II Timothy 3:6, 17, II Peter 1:19-21, Matthew 5:18, John 17:17). We believe in one triune God, existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, Who posses the same attributes and perfections yet carry out distinct roles (Deuteronomy 6:4, II Corinthians 13:14, I Peter 1:2, Matthew 28:19). We believe in the unique creation of Adam, as one man, and Eve, as one woman (Genesis 1:26-27, 2:20-23) and that they were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27, James 3:9), innocent under the law of their Maker (Genesis 2:25), but by voluntary transgression fell from their sinless, perfect state (Genesis 3:1-7), that this fall is the basis for the necessity of redemption of mankind (I Corinthians 15:21-22) and therefore all of mankind are sinners, inherently from Adam and individually (by choice), and are therefore subject to God's wrath and condemnation (Romans 3:23, 5:17-19). We believe that salvation is wholly of God's grace and not by man's works (Ephesians 2:8-9), and is received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and none other (Acts 4:12), whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. We believe that man must repent of his sins (Luke 13:2-5, Acts 3:19, 20:21, 26:20) and accept Christ as his Lord and Savior to receive eternal life (Romans 10:9-10). When he does this, he is secure in Christ forever (John 10:28-29, Romans 8:38-39, Hebrews 7:25); he becomes a child of God; he is indwelt by the Holy Spirit; and has power over sin. We do not believe, however, that his old nature of sin is completely eradicated, but that he has the provisions for victory since he has received his new nature when he accepted Christ as Savior (I Corinthians 1:4-8) see also (John 1:12, 5:24, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 10:10, Romans 3:24-25, 5:9, 8:1, I Peter 1:18-19). The two sacraments of the church are those which have been practiced by the church in every age. We regularly practice these as a way of celebrating the transforming realities of the gospel. They are called sacraments because they serve as visible presentations of invisible spiritual realities. We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowment of all His gifts (I Corinthians 12:11; Hebrews 2:4). Every believer has received at least one spiritual gift (I Peter 4:10,11). Spiritual gifts are given to the Church, not for self-edification, but for the building up of the body (I Corinthians 12). No one gift is to be exalted above another. They have been graciously given for the common good (Romans 12:3-8; I Corinthians 12:7; Ephesians 4:8-16). We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to eternal judgment and everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46, John 5:28, 29, John 11:25, 26, Revelation 20:5-6, 12-13). 103:19, 139:7-12, 147:5, Isaiah 44:24, Malachi 3:6, Matthew 7:7-8, John 4:24, I John 4:8, Romans 11:36). - We believe that **Jesus Christ** is the divine (John 1:1, 10:30, 38, Colossians 2:9), eternal (John 1:2), Son of God (Matthew 3:17, 8:29, 11:27, 16:16, 17:5, Mark 1:1, I John 5:9-12), that He was miraculously conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:18-23, Luke 11:34-35, Galatians 4:4), that He perfectly revealed and accomplished the will of God, taking upon Himself the demands and necessities of human nature (Philippians 2:5-8); that He identified Himself completely with mankind (John 1:14, Romans 1:3-4) yet was and remains without sin (I Peter 2:21-23, Hebrews 4:15), that He literally and vicariously died, was buried and raised from the dead (Romans 6:4, 9, I Corinthians 15:4, 20, I Thessalonians 1:10), and that He ascended to heaven (Acts 1:9), and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 9:24, I John 2:1-2). - We believe that the **Holy Spirit** is a divine Person, that He convicts the world of sin (John 16:8-11), helps (John 14:16-17, 26) and baptizes all believers into the body of Christ (I Corinthians 12:12-14). We believe that He is the divine Teacher (John 14:26, I John 2:27) who guides believers into truth (John 16:13), and that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled and controlled by the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18, I John 2:20). - **Invisible**: We believe that the true Church is the invisible, living, spiritual body of which Christ is the Head and all regenerated persons are members (I Corinthians 12:4-31, Ephesians 5:21-33, Colossians 1:18).  - **Visible**: We believe that the local church is a congregation of believers, governed by the Word of God, baptized and associated by a covenant of faith and fellowship, organized to be built up in the faith (Ephesians 3:11-16), by instruction in the Word of God (II Timothy 2:2, 15, 3:16-17), by fellowship (Acts 2:47, I John 1:3), by keeping the ordinances (Luke 22:19, Acts 2:38-42) and by faithful witnessing, through personal holiness and the proclamation of Christ to all men (Matthew 28:19, I Peter 3:15, Acts 1:8, 2:42). - **Baptism**: We believe that baptism is for those who have accepted Christ as Savior and who want to give public testimony of this fact and that they also want to follow Him. It is a symbol of Christ's death, burial, and resurrection, and therefore of our passing from death to life. While baptism is not essential for salvation, we believe it is the expressed will of the Lord, by example (Matthew 3:13-17) and by command (Matthew 28:19). We believe that baptism by immersion gives us the best picture of being buried with Christ and risen with Him unto life (Matthew 3:13-17, Matthew 28:29, John 5:24, Acts 2:41, 8:36-39, 9:18, 18:8, Ephesians 4:5, I Peter 3:21-22). - **The Lord's Supper**: We believe that the Lord's Supper is an observance commemorating the death of our Lord on Calvary; that it emphasizes the present relationship of the believer with Christ; that it is a proclamation of the fact of Christ's return; that the bread and the fruit of the vine are symbols of Christ's offered body and shed blood for the remission of sins; that the partaking is for those who know Christ as Savior; and that self-examination should precede its observance (Matthew 26:21-30, I Corinthians 11:17-34). - **Heaven**: We believe that the souls of the redeemed are, at death, "absent from the body and present with the Lord" (II Corinthians 5:8), where in conscious bliss they await the first resurrection (Revelation 20:4-6), when the body, soul, and spirit are reunited to be glorified and to remain forever with the Lord (Luke 23:43, Philippians 1:23, 3:21, I Thessalonians 4:16, 17).  - **Hell**: We believe that rejecting Christ as Savior sentences a man to a just, eternal, conscious, literal misery - awaiting the resurrection of his body when he will be cast into the lake of fire, having been judged at the great white throne of judgment (Revelation 20:11-15). This final state is also one of literal, everlasting, and conscious punishment (Luke 16:19-26; From Princeton, Masachusetts God began to stir the hearts of Pastor Josh Wyatt and his wife Becky for the need for more Biblically-faithful, Christ-exalting churches in New England. As Josh and Becky prayed through New England, their hearts grew heavy for the cities. Cities like Worcester and Boston, MA, Portland, ME, Providence, RI and Hartford, CT were often on their hearts and minds. As they continued in prayer and surveyed the needs of New England cities, Boston grew heaviest in their hearts. In time, the Lord has developed a vision for planting churches in influential cities throughout New England. Beginning with the planting of Charles River Church in Boston, the dream is to see people raised up who will step out in faith to plant churches in cities throughout the New England region. Still in the early days of our history, the people who make up Charles River Church are enjoying this exciting and formative season. After much prayer, preparation, and the support of various ministry partners, God raised up a team of 18 people all committed to step out in faith and start a church that would serve Boston well. The team began meeting in April of 2009 for prayer and planning, began small Bible studies in the city in February of 2010, and held our community Grand Opening October 17, 2010 at the West Roxbury Education Complex. From 2011-14, worship gatherings were held at the Boston School of Modern Languages. In the fall of 2014, as the church grew, worship gatherings were moved to the auditorium of the Washington Irving School in Boston's Roslindale Village. Today, our growing church community includes a high concentration of people from the Boston neighborhoods of Roslindale, West Roxbury, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Dorchester, and Jamaica Plain, and the towns of Brookline, Dedham, and Newton, along with students from numerous Boston-area colleges. As Charles River Church serves the surrounding communities, God is adding to our number regularly. Getting plugged into a group is a great way for you to connect deeper with Christ and His Church. They typically include a time of hanging out and getting to know each other, prayer, and discussion on the Bible. You'll grow to love your group and find yourself developing meaningful relationships that you can share life with. **WE WOULD LOVE TO WELCOME YOU INTO A CONNECTION GROUP!**  Our Fall '25 semester runs from September-December. You can join a group at any time during the semester. We have a vibrant group of students, but also have others at later stages in life excited to share their lives with our college students. We also provide opportunities for students to serve in the church or outside the church in various capacities. Charles River Church includes students of every stripe (undergrad, grad, and doctoral) and we consider them key members of our church family. We would love to walk with you in this season.  The regular gathering of God's people for worship, Word, and friendship will keep you connected to Christ while at college and will set a trajectory for your future walk with God. We also hold monthly college parties after the gathering for you and your friends to get time together and enjoy some free food. God has given us his Son, Jesus, so we give in response to His giving. Everything we own belongs to God anyways, and we can't take it with us, so we pool our resources as a group of believers to serve our community, world, and God's kingdom. There are two ways to financially support Charles River Church: online/app or through the offering box on a Sunday. Thank you! Charles River Church is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. Each year, the Charles River Finance Team and elder team prepare a budget, which is subsequently presented to our members for approval. The regular giving of CRC members and supporters is used to pay salaries, support ministries, pay bills, and serve our neighborhood. Annual giving statements will be mailed each January for the prior year.  Over 20% of the gifts we receive is contributed toward mission projects, church plants, and ministries around the globe. Here are some thoughts:** 1. **Make a plan.**  Make a plan for the holidays to make sure your people are loved, memories are made, and Christ is exalted above all. 2. **Set the tone.**  Decorate your home, your room, your office, your car - the change of environment and unique ambience sets the season apart. Light a candle, play some music, smells and sounds help and are part of God’s common grace to us! 3. **Give generously.**  God became a man in Jesus and showed us extravagant generosity. Find ways to give big like Jesus in this season. Be sure to get the kids involved too. They will be showered with gifts; help them look to others! One way to practice generosity is through our [Annual Christmas Offering](https://subsplash.com/u/charlesriverchurch/give?frequency=once&next_process_date=12/06/2024&fund_id=ce7cef1d-4021-4734-a26a-40e0d0764fb1) (dropdown link Christmas Offering '24). This year's gifts will go to global missions, our benevolence fund, and facility upgrades. 4. **Carve out time.**  Carve out time for special events and experiences where you can build traditions that are fun and point to Jesus. Break out the calendar and make it happen. 5. **Refuse to be Stressed.**  Don’t let the demands of the season (and the costs) steal your joy and make you unpleasant. 6. **Make memories.**  Make memories instead of just giving gifts. In 10 years, the people in your life will be far more impacted by the experiences you shared than the stuff you helped them accumulate. Don't forget our [Christmas Eve Candlelight Service!](https://charlesriverchurch.com/events/2024/12/24/christmas-eve-candlelight-service) 7. **Schedule Christmas dates.**  Put a date on the calendar to have a meaningful outing (or Zoom) with the people who need you the most (significant other, child, parent, grandparent). 8. **Utilize seasonal resources.**  There are plenty of [seasonal resources](https://linktr.ee/CRCadvent) available to help point you to Jesus and make this season meaningful (books, devotionals, movies, playlists, websites). 9. **Take a break.**  Jesus came to restore us to peace with God, peace with man, and peace within. Take some time off. No shame. Do the things that refresh you the most. 10. **Keep your eyes on Jesus!**  There will be a million little things vying for your attention. Make sure Jesus gets the **FIRST** of your attention and the **BEST** of your attention. We hope you can join us on Christmas Eve at 4pm for our Candlelight Service. Plan to bring someone with you as this will be a meaningful family-friendly gathering with familiar Christmas music, a message of hope, candle lighting, and singing. We believe this week to be essential as we obey Christ’s command to “seek *first* the kingdom of God and His righteousness.” Together we are starting off this new year seeking Him and pursuing breakthrough with intentional prayer and fasting. As we survey the Scriptures, the power of prayer is undeniable. Through prayer we say, “God I am dependent on you” and “I am casting my cares on the One who I know is in control.” Though all of us could afford to see growth in our prayer life, most of us are very familiar with prayer.  Fasting, however, is new to many. Prayer is taking our burdens to God, but fasting is a way to catalyze those prayers towards the breakthrough we’re seeking. Fasting is a way to deny yourself to make space for God to show up. It’s setting aside what we often seek for satisfaction, in order to seek God for satisfaction. In the scriptures we see a variety of kinds of fasting, some more extreme than others: Here are just a few ideas for you to consider during our Week of Prayer: These are ideas, but of course, you must consider your unique life circumstances and health. Do not be legalistic about this. God is concerned with your heart and the spirit behind any fasting. Below is a daily Prayer Guide to guide you in what to pray for each day this week. Gospel: Pray that we would be a church of people whose lives are deeply impacted by the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ. Pray that we are daily applying the gospel in our own lives and increasingly able to articulate the gospel to others. Seeking: Pray that each of us would seek the Lord over and above anything else in this world. Pray that God would allow us to taste and see that He is good. Pray that every one of us would develop a regular time with God and that it would move to deeper places than the previous year. Community: Pray that each of us would be living in meaningful Christ-centered relationships. Pray that we would all be known and caring for each other through Connection Groups and Reach Teams. Pray for a spirit of transparency among our people.   Generosity: Pray that God would stir all of us to be generous with our time, talent, and treasure. Pray that our church’s needs would be met financially. Pray that our Reach teams would be full and functioning in health. Pray that people would find a place where they can use their gifts for the glory of God and the good of others in the church. Pray that God would make clear the opportunities He would have our church to step into and the needs that He would have us meet this year. Neighbors: Pray that we would “neighbor” well. Our neighbors include our literal next door neighbors, but also co-workers, classmates, and regular acquaintances. Pray that each of us would be actively “B.L.E.S.S.ing” these neighbors (Begin with prayer for them by name, Listen/learn about them through questions, Eating or engaging in some next-step activity that builds relationship, Serving them in a practical way, Story - take advantage of an opportunity to share your story and the story of Jesus). Pray that every one of us would have an intentional 3 people that we are praying for and seeking to B.L.E.S.S. Transformation: Pray that we would all experience a transformation of life in 2025. “He who began a good work in \[us\] will bring it to completion in the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil 1:6). Knowing this, pray that God’s work would be evident in our lives. Pray that we would be increasingly changed by Him. Pray that at the end of this year we would be able to look back and see real transformation, that we are not the same - we have grown.  Generations: Pray that our faith would be passed to the next generation. Pray for our children, that they would see a compelling Christ in us. Pray for River Kids ministry, that it would be effective in the mission of  “Partnering with parents to connect kids to Jesus.” Pray for our youth. We have a youth ministry where almost none of our students go to the same schools. Pray that God would develop a life-giving community of peers and youth leaders to support them in their developing faith. Pray for our college students. Free on-street parking is available on Cummins Hwy. Our [River Kids](https://bedbugb399b2d3.brizy.site/children) program takes place during the Gathering while you are in church. While we're [online](http://charlesriver.online.church/), we'll be providing gospel-centered activities you can do with your children (for babies, toddlers, and elementary!) Service Length:  Our Worship Gatherings last no more than an hour and a half. Attire: Attire is casual, though a few people do dress up. Bus transportation is available from Forest Hills Station (Orange Line) to Roslindale Sq. Buses out of Forest Hills Station to Roslindale Sq: #14, 30, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 51, 192. We understand that showing up to a church for the first time can be intimidating.  We want to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. From the minute you park your car or get off the bus, you will find clear signs pointing you into the public school where we meet. You'll notice that dress is fairly casual (though a few people do dress up) and that we're a very ethnically and generationally diverse congregation. Our greeters will make sure that you find what you need from the children's check-in area, the restroooms, and your seat. You'll find the Connections Area as a place for you to meet people, get more information about our church, a gift for guests, coffee and light refreshments. Once the worship gathering begins, you can participate as much or a little as you would like. Our services tend to have people from all sorts of backgrounds and at different places in their spiritual life. The worship gathering lasts approximately an hour and a half and includes contemporary music, readings from the Bible, prayer led by the leadership, and an engaging message from the Bible taught by Pastor Josh or a guest teacher. Just before the sermon begins, we dismiss children to our [River Kids](https://bedbugb399b2d3.brizy.site/children) program. On the first Sunday of every month we participate in communion together. Near the end of each gathering, we give back to God our financial offerings to meet the needs of Boston and beyond and to further the ministry of the church. Please do not feel obligated to give. At the end of our gathering, people often hang around to catch up and get to know each other and many go enjoy a meal together. During the sermon portion of the Worship Gathering, children from Birth-5th Grade can learn about God from loving volunteers in our exciting children's program, River Kids. River Kids is run by a team of volunteers who have a passion for helping kids and families know Jesus and His mission. We believe that the parents’ mandate in Deuteronomy 6 is to train their children to follow the Lord. Our desire is that River Kids would serve as a catalyst for discussion and teaching between parents and children. We also want Charles River to be a place where you can be comfortable to bring your children. (All River Kids volunteers are nationally background-checked for your child’s safety.)  We recommend that you arrive by 9:50 to check-in your children at the check-in area. Then, you and your child(ren) can proceed to the auditorium for worship where they will be dismissed to River Kids after the music (approx 20 mins into the service).  Our nursing mother's area is available for moms who need to feed their children.  SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT EACH AGE GROUP. Our Tadpoles team is passionate about caring for your little ones! Tadpoles are cared for by loving volunteers trained to care for you child. The room is the first room next to check-in/security for your peace of mind. Guppies is our Pre K room where children learn about Jesus and His mission through age-appropriate activities like stories, games, fun music, and crafts. Our Guppies team has a heart for young children and is passionate about creating a safe, clean environment where your children can learn and grow! In our River Kids area, your kids will have a blast with our leaders who have a passion for engaging children with fun experiences and age-appropriate lessons about Jesus and His mission.
